«EACH REFUGEE THAT ARRIVES TO GREECE IS A REFUGEE THAT ARRIVES TO EUROPE AND, TO THAT EXTENT, TO PORTUGAL"
"We do not have the flow of refugees that Greece has had, but every refugee that arrives in Greece is a refugee that arrives in Europe and, to that extent, someone that also comes to Portugal", said the Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa at a press conference with his Greek counterpart, Alexis Tsipras in Athens, where he undertook an official one-day visit.
The Prime Minister added that "for this since the beginning we expressed the full commitment and willingness to cooperate actively with the European Union, and bilaterally with Greece in all these dimensions."
António Costa referred that "we have elements of the Portuguese Navy participating in the NATO mission overseeing the Aegean Sea” and “some agents of GNR as well as of the BIP engaged in operations of EASO and Frontex".
"In addiction, from the first moment, we expressed our availability to, besides the number of refugees that the European Union countries agreed to accept in relocation operations, be able to, on a bilateral basis with the Greek Government, accept the relocation of refugees who want to find a new opportunity to rebuild their lives in Portugal."
