On Saturday, November 30th, took place the Awards and Closing Ceremony of the 10th Avant Garde Athens Film Festival (taking place between November 20th and December 5th), during which a tribute to Manoel de Oliveira was held.
The Embassy of Portugal in Athens took part in the ceremony by receiving the International Competition Award on behalf of the Portuguese director João Salaviza, who won the distinction for the film "Chuva é cantoria na aldeia dos mortos" along with the Brazilian director Renée Nader Messora.
The ceremony was held in the Lais' auditorium, headquarters of the Greek Film Archive, and was hosted by Professor Maria Komninou, director of the institution. The event was attended by prominent personalities of the cultural and political scope of the Greek capital. The evening came to an end with the screening of the new short film by the Greek filmmaker, Yorgos Lanthimos, entitled "NIMIC" (2019) and the film "Il Miracolo a Milano" (1951) by the Italian director Vittorio de Sica.
