The participation of Portugal in the 83rd edition of the Thessaloniki International Fair (September 8-16), a result of an unprecedented partnership between AICEP (Portuguese Agency for Trade & Investment), the Association Home From Portugal and NERLEI (Business Association of the Leiria Region), attracted the keen interest of the business community and the consumers.
In a booth of high aesthetic, under the brand name Made In Portugal Naturally, were presented home textiles, decorative and table ceramic/porcelain articles and furniture, of high quality and design, customization and adaptation capacity in the market needs, as well as innovative products for the hotel industry (cork floor and touchless interactive mirror).
The hotel industry is the main focus of interest of the Home line industries of Portugal in the Greek market. Given the intense development of the tourism sector in Greece, Thessaloniki International Fair, in which Portugal participated for the first time, represented a unique opportunity to show the potential of Made in Portugal products.
The results of this participation were so encouraging that it is under consideration the presence of Portugal in other International Fairs in Greece in the near future.
In the 83rd Thessaloniki International Fair participated also as an exhibitor the Portuguese company Lusocargo Transitários S.Α. with the company Canco S.A., his partner in the Greek market.
The organization, construction and monitoring of the Portuguese participation were coordinated by the Economic Counsellor/Director of AICEP in Athens, Mr. Laurent Armaos, and by the specialist in the Home line of AICEP, Mrs. Isabel Quintas, in full coordination with the representative of the Home From Portugal Association, Mrs. Maria Alberta Canizes, and the representative of NERLEI, Mr. Pedro Custódio. It had also the support of the Honorary Consul of Portugal in Thessaloniki, Mrs. Katerina Michailides, and the active assistance of Mrs. Cristina Bento Mitakidou (Honorary Consulate in Thessaloniki) and Mrs. Vasso Kouteri (Embassy of Portugal in Athens).
The Ambassador of Portugal, Mr. Rui Manuppella Tereno, and the Counsellor of the Embassy of Portugal, Mr. João Ricardo Mendes, also visited the Thessaloniki International Fair in order to increase the visibility of the Portuguese presence and to contact with the organizers and the national exhibitors in the stand, that was also visited by members and friends of the Portuguese Community in Greece, as well as of numerous visitors of the Fair.
